Gorillaz are an English virtual band formed in 1998 by Damon Albarn & Jamie Hewlett. The band consists of 4 animated members: 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle & Russell Hobbs. Their fictional universe is presented in music videos, interviews & short cartoons. Gorillaz' music often features collaborations with a wide range of featured artists. With Gorillaz, Albarn departed from the Britpop of his band Blur, exploring a variety of styles including hip hop, electronica & world music through an "eccentrically postmodern" approach. Gorillaz has presented itself live in a variety of ways such as hiding the touring band from audience view, projecting animated band members on stage via CGI and traditional live touring. The band have sold >25 million records and are cited by Guinness World Records as the world's "Most Successful Virtual Band." They've won a Grammy, 2 MTV Awards and many more awards.
