Feels slightly self-important to use my name in the title, but ListChallenges are insisting on a descriptive and unique title.
This is a list of 120 albums I would want to point my kids at, if I had any, to give them a good chance of discovering a wide range of great music. With a few exceptions, I limited myself to one album per artist (as much as it hurt for Bowie and the National). I stuck to "pop", defined broadly, avoiding jazz and minimising instrumental music. I tried to balance genres and mix mainstream, alternative, and genuinely obscure music.
At one point I had it in "favourites" order, but switched to alphabetical because there isn't much separating the albums from 20-120.
Big obvious gaps: music before 1965, metal, reggae, non-Anglosphere music, New Wave, disco, funk, soul, and dance. As mentioned, jazz, classical music, avant-garde, experimental music, ambient, etc. are absent.
Biased towards: British, men, 2009-2017.
