100 Must-Read Prize Winning Novels

3rd list from Bloomsbury's Good Reading Guide series, this one written just by Nick Rennison. Many of these books I hadn't heard of till I read the guide, & doubt I'll ever read any of them(not my taste). However, they have proven popular with literary prize juries around the world. I can't put the names of the all of the awards here, but many familiar ones are listed-Pulitzer Prize,(Man)Booker Prize & National Book Award. They cover Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland & the U.S. Some British awards can also be won by an author from a former British colony. There's awards for First Novels, one for second(Encore Award), comic writing(Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize), writers under 35(John Llewellyn Rhys Prize & Somerset Maugham Award) & women (Orange Prize). The Betty Trask Award was meant to go to romantic or "traditional" book, but the jury disregards the founder's will on occasion. Whitbread Book Awards now Costa Awards. Winifred Holtby now Ondaatje Prize.
