100 Most Important German Movies

On the occasion of the 100th birthday of the cinema, the Kinematheksbund conducted a poll for the 100 most important German films in 1995, in which over 300 film experts voted. Films from FRG and GDR could be selected, although the Weimar Republic is particularly well represented in the list with 37 films. Fritz Lang, Georg Wilhelm Pabst and Rainer Werner Fassbinder are the most frequently represented directors with six films each. It is the most comprehensive survey of its kind on German films to date.
Note that there are 102 films on the list because they treated "Die Nibelungen" and "Olympia" as one movie, respectively.
