10 PG-13 Movies That Would Have Been Much Better R-Rated According to Screenrant

"Hollywood's instinct is to release every blockbuster film under the PG-13 umbrella, but some films would have benefited from R-rated elements. Generally, studios favor the PG-13 rating as it allows more people to see the film in theaters. The higher a film's budget, the more likely a studio will hope to recoup its spending with a more permissive rating. PG-13 is generally the sweet spot for blockbusters, which are often action films depicting at least a modest amount of bloodshed and violence. However, restrictions on mature elements such as realistic violence and coarse language can often hurt a film's overall quality. The acknowledged capacity for more mature themes to elevate the quality of a film is what led to the invention of the PG-13 rating in the first place. certain films require the inclusion of R-rated elements – the weight of realist violence, the grit of coarse language – to tell their story authentically." - screenrant.com
